NEWS RELEASE
June 16, 2008
Officials for the State Route 52 Sunny Side Gateway Project have announced a major detour on Mission Gorge Road near the on-ramps to the freeway. The detour will start Thursday, June 26 and affect motorists driving in both directions on Mission Gorge Road for about three months. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the westbound lanes of Mission Gorge Road from just west of the westbound SR-52 on-ramp to approximately the eastbound SR-52 Mission Gorge off-ramp. Crews will be building the columns for the bridge over Mission Gorge Road.
Westbound motorists will have the two right lanes to access westbound SR-52. There will be one lane for through traffic crossing temporally onto eastbound Mission Gorge Road for approximately 50 yards. Traffic will be seperated by a concrete barrier.
Eastbound Mission Gorge Road will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes. The left turn pocket to westbound SR-52 will be closed during this work. Signs will be in place to detour motorists to westbound SR-52 using the Mast Boulevard on-ramp.
Caltrans has constructed a temporary bike lane adjacent to the eastbound lanes of Mission Gorge Road from Mesa Road under SR-52/State Route 125 connector ramps to near the SR-125 on-ramp.
Your patience in this matter will be greatly appreciated during the course of the work. If you have any questions, please contact the Caltrans Public Information Office at 619-688-6670 or visit SR-52 Sunnyside Gateway Construction Field Office at 9851 Buena Vista Avenue, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin the next operation of the SR-52 Sunny Side Gateway Project. Beginning the week of May 5 crews will be placing 50-foot steel piles for the new bridges over Fanita Drive. This operation is called "Pile Driving" and it entails using a hydraulic hammer to drive the steel piles into the ground. This operation generates a lot of noise.
Construction will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday for approximately one month (weather permitting). The work is necessary to create a solid foundation for the bridge structures.
Residents in the area may experience some inconvenience as a result of the noise generated by this work.
The State Route 52 Sunny Side Gateway Project will add four-news freeway lanes within the city of Santee from SR-125 to SR-67.
Your patience in this matter will be greatly appreciated during the course of the work. If you have any questions, please contact the Caltrans Public Information Office at (619) 688-6670. Additional information can be found at:
