When & Why Permits are Necessary
Moving Permits allow for the monitoring of truck traffic throughout the City, and to minimize the potential of damage to City infrastructure by oversize and overweight vehicles. Moving permits are required on all loads exceeding:
- 12 feet in height
- 8 feet 6 inches in width
- 65 feet in length
Permits are vehicle specific and the original shall be carried in the vehicle to which it refers at all times while the vehicle is being moved within the City limits. No movement shall be made between the hours of 7:00-9:00 am and 4:00-6:00 pm.

Pilot Cars (top of page)
One Car Required
- Loads greater than 12’ 6” in width.
Two Cars Required
- Loads greater than 14’ 0” in width; or
- Loads greater than 90’ 0” in length.
Route Evaluation by Traffic Engineer (top of page)
Routes that require evaluation and review by the city traffic engineer require eight (8) calendar days notice. Additional charges for staff time for the route evaluation will apply. A review by the traffic engineer is required for the following:
- Loads greater than 15’ 0” in width; or
- Loads greater than 15’ 0” in height; or
- Loads greater than 110’ 0” in length; or
- Loads greater than 60,000 lbs/axle (purple weight)

Certificate of Insurance
No fax copies will be accepted. The certificate of Insurance must include the clause: “Should any of the above described policies be cancelled before the expiration date thereof, the issuing company will mail 30 days written notice to the certificate holder named to the left."
General Liability Insurance Requirements:
All applicants must provide proof of insurance at a minimum of $1,000,000 for general liability insurance. Additionally, the City of Santee must be specifically named on a separate insurance endorsement page.
Automotive Liability Insurance Requirements:
All applicants must provide proof of insurance at a minimum of $1,000,000 for automotive liability insurance.
When & Where Permits are Issued (top of page)
Moving Permits are issued at City Hall, Department of Development Services, 10601 Magnolia Avenue Building 4, (619) 258-4100. No fax copies will be accepted as the permit must have a wet signature. The City of Santee observes a compressed 9/80 work schedule; hours to obtain permits are as follows:
- 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday
- 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday

$16.00 Single Trip Permit
$90.00 Annual Permit (max width 13’ 6”, height 15’ 0”, length 90’ 0”)
The City of Santee accepts payment of permits by cash, check or credit card.
